Look Out LeBron!

Although Jamaicans are born with a football (soccer) at the end of their feet, the game developed in Springfield Ma, is beginning to catch on. This week we held the First Annual Basketball Camp. Not as popular as our Football Camp that saw 100 boys take the field, this Camp, although small in number, was not lacking in excitement! A few weeks ago King James decided to play for Miami. Well, 600 miles south there are some little Jamaicans "shooting" for his job!

If you build it, you can have . . .

A Guidance Office. Yes, the Ministry of Education says: If you have a dedicated room for Guidance and Counseling, we will designate one of your teachers as the Guidance Counselor. Making guidance and counseling service available to the students of St Mary's All Age is near and dear to Father Michael Heine, former Director of Guidance at Archbishop Curley High School. So in memory of Fr Mike's great aunt the St Mary's All Age Guidance Room is under construction. Under the watchful eye of Br Brian the team finishes the last few buckets of "mud" for the slab roof.

In Memory of . . .

Yesterday the friars laid to rest +Brother John Joseph Dolan, OFM Conv. Brother JJ was the Assistant General for the English-speaking Conventual Franciscan Friars. Brother JJ was a two time visitor to St Mary's and Mission in 2006 and 2008; he was instrumental in the establishment of the mission here in Jamaica. In your charity please continue to pray for +Brother JJ's happy repose, and for all who mourn his passing.

Vuvuzela free zone

The noise coming from the St. Mary's Playfield this week didn't come from a vuvuzela in South Africa but from the excitement of over 75 boys attending the annual football camp. This year we had the biggest attendance as World Cup Fever continued to overflow on the Island Nation. Thanks to the Bolios from New England and other generous benefactors, each boy was able to receive special instruction, a camp t-shirt, a water bottle and bag. Our next sports camp will be at the end of the month - Basketball Camp.

140 steps DOWN

How do you get 20 yards of sand, 20 yards of gravel and a truck load of block down 140 steps to the All-Age? A picture says a thousand words! Lacking modern equipment, our workers found unique ways to deliver materials needed to build a new Counselling Centre at the All-Age school. We are surely blessed with such dedicated co-workers! Brother Brian takes over on Monday.

Dancing The Night Away...

... well at least from 4-8pm. Dressed in their finest outfits, our Grade 6 students celebrated their graduation with a semi-formal dinner-dance. A good time was had by all!
