Saint Mary's Basic

School Leaving Exercises continued this afternoon as St. Mary's Basic graduated 20 boys and girls. During the ceremony a presentation was made by the late Pearl Antonio's daughter. Ms. Antonio was a teacher/principal at the school for over 35 years. She passed away this past October. The family has set up a scholarship fund to help a needy little boy or girl.

The graduates delighted the crowed with a sign-language exhibition.

Future Jamaican Bakers

Last Friday, June 26th, marked the last day for our Cupertino Program for this school year. Many thanks to all our friends in the States who supported this Program financially, with materials, and all the volunteers who came to work with our young people. The final day Sister Naomi taught the boys and girls how to make sugar cookies. They were able to use their knowledge of measurements to make delicious treats!

"School Leaving" Part I

We are now in the season of "School Leaving Exercises" - Graduation. The school year is long here in Jamaica. The last day of classes is July 3rd and school will begin again September 7th. Yesterday we celebrated our first of five ceremonies honoring our students. Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Basic School, Pinto said good bye to ten 5 year olds who head off to grade one in September.

Become What You Receive

Throughout the Island hundreds of boys and girls celebrated their First Communions on the Feast of Corpus Christi. We had 5 from three of our four Church Communities.

Saint Mary's celebrated a special little boy, Demario. He has been asking for Communion for years and his Mom decided that this was the year.

Here Demario and his Mom present the gifts of bread and wine.

Through the power of the Holy Spirit those gifts are changed into the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ.

May the Body and Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ bring us all to eternal life!

Pentecost - Seeing Double

On Pentecost Sunday, our Church in Rock Hall, Our Lady of Lourdes, welcomed five new members through the waters of Baptism. There were two sets of twins - Aneka and Chaneka-Damor and Dimor. The Spirit is a movin!
