Sorry... Comment Option Removed

I regret to inform you that due to several 'poor taste' comments posted and one yesterday that had a virus, I have removed the comment option for the St. Mary's Blog. While the vast majority of the comments posted were positive and allowed us to see how far and wide the Blog is read, the possibility of a friend of the mission catching a virus while visiting is a risk not worth taking. Thank you for your understanding.
As always, we bid you peace!

Faces and Smiles at St Mary's

Province Council Visits St. Mary's

The Provincial Council for the Friars who staff St. Mary's visited February 14th through 17th, 2008. Here you see them with Fr Mike Heine after Sunday Mass. During their visit to see the Mission first hand they had opportunity to meet with the General and the Vicar of the Franciscan Sisters of the Eucharist (center) and Archbishops Burke and Reece (bottom).

Fr Marco Tasca - Minister General

Fr Marco Tasca, OFM Conv, the Minister General of the Conventual Franciscan Friars, and the 119th Successor of St Francis of Assisi, visited the Mission this past weekend. Fr. Marco was elected to the post (see 23rd June 2007 Blog) for a six year term. While attending meetings with the English speaking provincials of the North America, Great Britain and Ireland in Pt St Lucie, Florida, he and his assistant Br John-Joseph Dolan took time out of their busy schedule to see the mission first hand. During his short stay Fr Marco and Br John-Joseph had opportunity to meet with Archbishop Reece, Msgr Albert, assist with weekend Masses in Rock Hall and Above Rocks, and today they visited at Cassava River for Devotional and saw the happenings here on the compound at St Mary's.

Pen Pals at Father Kolbe School

PEN PAL, a noun. A person with whom one becomes acquainted through a friendly, regular correspondence.

The students at Father Kolbe School in Baltimore, MD, have been pen pals with the children here at St. Mary's All Age School. Grades three and four write each other several times a year. The most recent letters from the students in Jamaica explained the Jamaican Flag and a few pieces of Jamaican culture. For Christmas the students of Father Kolbe School sent Christmas Cards to the same children/grades.

On Wednesday, 30 January 2008 I had the opportunity to visit Father Kolbe School and to do a short PowerPoint presentation on St. Mary's: it's missions and schools. The pictures to the right show the students and a part of the presentation.

WELCOME - Sr. Mona Brunner, FSE

This is a late post of our most recent visitor: Sr. Mona, from the Franciscan Sisters of the Eucharist's Idaho Center. Sr. Mona arrived punctually but her bags did not...the dreaded delayed bags form had to be completed before clearing Customs, with the promise that the "bags will be delivered." (Yes, and the check is in the mail!)

Well much to our surprise, especially myself, a true doubting Thomas, the bags were delivered to the door, within 24 hours of Sr. Mona's arrival. I promised the man who delivered -we'd post it on the Blog... and I must say (having passed through Manley Internation Airport Sunday past) that the entire process at the airport is much improved, and no longer dreaded.
Sister Mona also took a few days to get accustomed to the roads... the weather... the noise... the constant (24/7) sensorial experience here in Above Rocks... but two weeks into her month-long stay she's helping in the Cupertino Program, visiting the sick/homebound on Tuesdays and following the regular routine here at St. Mary's. Sr. Mona is a gardener, counselor and a baker... we've been treated to her baking for our Fat Tuesday treat.

We pray God's blessings on Sr. Mona as she experiences the Mission.
