St Edward's Parish - Stafford Springs, CT

April 17th through April 25th the volunteer mission team from St Edward's Parish, Stafford Springs, CT, journeyed with their pastor, Fr Richard Jacob Forcier, OFM Conv, to St Mary's and Missions for a week of service. Much like this post, it was a unique week! If the water shortage was not enough of a challenge, during this week the government announced the new budget and tensions ran high. The night before the budget was to be unveiled the Prime Minister addressed the nation at 8:55pm - asking that "calmer heads to prevail" as the budget debates opened. This precipitated the movement of the group to the hotel by the airport, should any civil unrest prevent getting to the airport. Suffice to say: the group survived, calmer heads prevailed and the group got a few extra hours at the pool and a good shower before they traveled home.

The group worked on the +Mother Mona, FSE, Educational and Pastoral Centre, on the campus of Holy Family Church and the Cassava River Infant and Primary School, in the Glengoffee area of St Catherine.

Each morning the group worked with grade nine students from St Mary's All Age. May 1st grade nine students sat for for the GNAT (Grade Nine Achievement Test). This test will determine if the student moves on to secondary education (high school), technical education (a trade school) or the fields- to bush and farm.

Sorry for the late post. . . some technical difficulties have delayed this post.
